Brewers Win First World Series Title, Beat Rays 4-1 in Game 5
The Milwaukee Brewers are World Series champions. Milwaukee beat the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 in Game 5 on Wednesday, October 28 at Tropicana Field, closing out the series four games to one and bringing home the first championship in the franchise’s 58-year history.
It was a fitting end to a dominant October. The Brewers went 11-2 in the postseason, and their eight-game winning streak was only snapped by Tampa Bay’s 12-inning win in Game 3. Milwaukee never trailed in the clincher after rookie shortstop Cooper Pratt drove in the first run, and the bullpen covered the final 4 1/3 innings in scoreless fashion.
Misiorowski Delivers Again
Second-year ace Jacob Misiorowski took a shutout into the sixth inning, working 5 2/3 scoreless frames while allowing just two hits. He left with a 4-0 lead after right calf cramps ended his night, but the damage was done. Misiorowski started and won Games 1 and 5 of the series, and he is now the first starter age 24 or under to win two World Series games in the same year since Livan Hernandez in 1997.
His postseason run also strengthens his case for National League Cy Young honors when the awards are announced in November, after a regular season in which he struck out a major-league high 252 batters.
Pratt Caps a Historic Series
Pratt, 22, became the first rookie in World Series history with hits in six straight at-bats, a streak that stretched across Games 4 and 5. He singled home the first run, singled and scored the second run in the fifth, and added a sacrifice fly in the sixth. He joined fellow 22-year-old Jackson Chourio as two of only 14 players to collect eight hits in a World Series at age 22 or younger, the first pair to do it in the same year.
William Contreras doubled home Christian Yelich to make it 3-0 in the sixth, then scored later in the inning on Pratt’s fly ball.
What It Means for Bettors
The championship closes the book on the 2026 baseball betting season, but it opens the next one. Milwaukee’s young core, led by Misiorowski, Chourio, and Pratt, figures to keep the Brewers near the top of the National League futures board when 2027 World Series odds post. Early futures prices on a defending champion rarely offer much value, so the smarter play is often to wait for the market to settle or to look for division and win-total numbers once they appear.
For the offseason, keep an eye on Cy Young award markets and the Brewers’ roster moves. A repeat bid depends on keeping this rotation intact. Compare futures prices across the books before placing anything: BetUS, Bovada, and BetOnline.
