Best Bets for October 19: 4 Plays With Real Edge

Monday brings a loaded board: Monday Night Football, a pennant on the line in the ALCS, Game 2 of the WNBA Finals, and a full NHL slate. Four plays today, ranked by win probability, every one with real matchup reasoning and a link to a top book.

1. Golden State Valkyries vs. Atlanta Dream, WNBA Finals Game 2 (8:00 p.m. ET, USA/Peacock) – 68%

Golden State is unbeaten at Chase Center this postseason and took Game 1 68-64 behind Gabby Williams’ 26 points and a 7-0 closing run. The Valkyries own the league’s best defense at 75.1 points allowed per game, and their depth showed Saturday: ten players saw the floor, the bench outscored Atlanta 20-6, and Golden State outrebounded the Dream 41-35. Atlanta’s starters are already heavy legged, with Rhyne Howard and Jordin Canada logging 38 minutes apiece, and the Dream shot 2-for-19 in the fourth quarter. In a grind-it-out series, the deeper, better defensive home team is the clear edge. Play: Valkyries moneyline via BetUS.

2. Washington Commanders at San Francisco 49ers, Monday Night Football (8:15 p.m. ET, ESPN/ABC) – 65%

San Francisco is 5-0, one of three unbeaten teams left, with the NFL’s best point differential at plus 61. Brock Purdy is collecting MVP buzz and gets Washington’s pass defense at home, a unit that just gave up 326 yards and three touchdowns to Jameis Winston. The Commanders are 1-3-1, lost their lead back Jacory Croskey-Merritt to a groin injury, and face cross-country travel on a short week of prep. San Francisco’s receiver room is banged up with Deebo Samuel out and Mike Evans questionable, which keeps this off blowout-lock status, but the 49ers have survived injuries all year. Play: 49ers moneyline via BetOnline.

3. Cleveland Guardians at Tampa Bay Rays, ALCS Game 6 (8:00 p.m. ET, TBS) – 62%

Tampa Bay is one win from its third AL pennant after a 3-1 Game 5 win in Cleveland, and the closeout game comes at home. Since the ALCS went to seven games in 1985, road teams that won Game 5 to take a 3-2 lead have gone on to win the series four of five times. Cleveland’s pitching plan is in flux with Gavin Williams ruled out on short rest, and the Rays’ bullpen is a wall: Bryan Baker has converted 35 straight saves. The Rays were the better roster all season, and the better roster usually wins the coin flips in October. Play: Rays moneyline via MyBookie.

4. Colorado Avalanche at Philadelphia Flyers (7:00 p.m. ET) – 60%

Colorado’s offense is humming at 36 goals this season, and Philadelphia simply cannot score: Matvei Michkov leads the Flyers with just five points through ten games. The goaltending matchup favors the visitors too, with Dan Vladar carrying a 3.88 goals-against average and an .887 save percentage in six career starts against Colorado. Philadelphia just got its first win out of the way, but one win is not a turnaround against a Cup-caliber attack. Play: Avalanche moneyline via Bovada.
