Valkyries Win First WNBA Title in Game 7 Thriller as Gabby Williams Makes History

The Golden State Valkyries are WNBA champions. In just their second season, the Valkyries beat the Atlanta Dream 68-63 in a winner-take-all Game 7 on Saturday, October 31, at Chase Center in San Francisco, closing out a finals series that went the distance.

Gabby Williams was named Finals MVP after a second half for the record books. She scored only two points in the first half, then poured in 28 after halftime, finishing with a game-high 30 points. That 28-point second half is a WNBA Finals record, and it turned a six-point halftime deficit into a championship.

How Game 7 turned

Atlanta controlled much of the first half. The Dream led 30-24 at halftime, and at one point their lead reached nine points. Golden State opened the game on an 8-0 run, but Atlanta answered and held the momentum into the break, with Jordin Canada leading the way for the Dream.

The third quarter changed everything. Williams caught fire from deep, hitting three three-pointers in the period, and Golden State closed the quarter on a 17-3 run to take a 45-44 lead. Williams opened the fourth quarter with a pull-up jumper, and her 31-foot three-pointer with just over two minutes left pushed the lead back to three when Atlanta had tied the game.

Williams delivers a historic second half

Williams finished 10-of-23 from the field, including 4-of-8 from three-point range, for 30 points. Tiffany Hayes added 11 points, and Veronica Burton posted 10 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. For Atlanta, Canada scored 18 points, Allisha Gray added 16, and Angel Reese finished with eight points and 12 rebounds.

The title is historic on two fronts. Golden State won a championship in only its second year of existence, the fastest title run for an expansion team among the major North American leagues. The Valkyries also became the first team in the league’s 30-year history to win a title without an All-WNBA player on the roster.

What It Means for Bettors

Do not let one magical night rewrite your whole 2027 outlook. Championship teams that win without a single All-WNBA player often get underpriced the following season, because books and bettors both lean on star power. If Golden State keeps this core together, its early 2027 futures price could offer value before the market fully prices in a proven finals closer in Williams.

On the other side, Atlanta’s run still matters. The Dream swept their first two playoff series and reached Game 7, so a step back in their futures price after this loss could be a buying spot rather than a reason to write them off. Compare early 2027 championship futures and win total markets at BetUS, Bovada and BetOnline, and wait for confirmed rosters and schedules before locking in a number. Futures prices move fast once the offseason takes shape, so shopping for the best price is part of the edge.
